Building a legacy
Nikkiso CE&IG’s roots go back to the early 1950s, when Special Pump Co. Ltd. was formed in Japan for the import and sale of reciprocating metering pumps.
Just two years later the company had moved into manufacturing
these pumps domestically, and by the end of the decade the Nikkiso name was taking shape when the business rebranded to Nippon Kikai Keiso Kaisha Ltd.

Global expansion
The 1960s and 1970s were characterized by the expansion of the Industrial division, both geographically and in its product offering. Nikkiso Co. Ltd – as the Group became known in 1968 – listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange and moved into a broad range of aerospace and medical equipment as well as advanced materials.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the Pacific the Cryogenic Industries Group – which would later become a key part of Nikkiso CE&IG’s growth story – was taking its first steps into manufacturing cryogenic systems in California, USA.

Full service offering
As we approached the turn of the century, growing customer demand meant Nikkiso’s offering expanded from manufacturing to include the ongoing service and maintenance of clients’ equipment.
Our expertise in manufacturing special pumps continued to grow with
licensed production of JC Carter’s submerged motor pump, used for liquefied gas.

Strategic acquisitions
Nikkiso’s growth meant the company went from a licensed manufacturer of JC Carter’s pumps to owning the business outright as part of its acquisition of the cryogenic pump business of Atlas Copco.
The acquisition further enhanced Nikkiso's leadership in the growing LNG industry – and more was to come two years later when the Group acquired Cryogenic Industries Group, creating the largest cryogenic pump company in the world. Nikkiso Clean Energy & Industrial Gases as we know it today was born.
